e.l.f Eyelid Primer vs Urban Decay Primer Potion
There are quite a few products on the market claiming to be primers when they are really concealers and e.l.f. eyelid primer is one of them.
What's the difference? The concealer can mask discoloration but it doesn't seal or prepare the surface.
In fact you use make up concealer after you have put on your foundation. So you put on foundation and dab the concealer over the top - great for splotches, zits, birthmarks or uneven skin tone.
But for eyes, a concealer will add bulk to very fine skin. And your eyelids are very fine. So e.lf. for instance does not keep eye shadow intact and can make creasing/oiliness worse.
Review of e.l.f. and Urban Decay Primer Potion
In this very objective video review, this young lady tells us what she thinks of both e.l.f. and Urban Decay Primer Potion.
e.l.f eyelid primer
- Not sheer, more like 85% sheer
- More like concealer than a primer
- Doesn't blend in as well, which is ok if you have fair skin
- Doesn't last as long - it gets messed up by lunch time
- Does brighten up eye shadow colors a little, although not as well as UDPP
- If you don't really care about a primer, or you don't need your eye shadow to last all day, who can argue with a $1 price tag?
- Because there is less product, it works out to be about $4 for the same amount
Urban Decay Primer Potion
- Really does last all day - eye shadow does not get messed up
- prevents creasing
- The packaging is much more attractive
- Really sheer, so it blends into any skin color
- You get more product than the e.l.f.
- The angled brush makes it easier to put on
- Makes the colors in your eye shadow more vibrant and pigmented than the e.l.f.
- less fall out - eye shadow sticks
