About me - who's behind UrbanDecayPrimerPotion
Hi, my name is Kim, and I live on the Gold Coast in Australia.

OK, before you ask - I have nothing to do with the company Urban Decay. I am a fan. I love to find out what's new and try new things.
I came across the term "Urban Decay Primer Potion" and thought wtf is that? So I went and found out about it, did some research.
Turns out eye primer is really useful stuff. And then I found out Urban Decay Primer Potion was the best eye primer out there (so far)
I am a great believer in making the most of whatever assets you have. Whatever is your best features, focus on that. If you have great skin, make it better. If you have nice eyes why not draw attention to them?
So there you have it. I have pulled together all the stuff I can find about eye primers and in particular Urban Decay Eye Primer.
Feel free to contact me if you have something you would like to add or find out
When I searched through forums and comments to find out what the downside was to this product, a couple of things stood out.
-
The biggest thing was the packaging. Although really well designed - the little genie bottle looks fabulous on your dresser, it is just not functional.
I found quite a few you Tube videos dealing with how much gets wasted because it gets stuck in the curves of the bottle - and how to get it out and put it into another container (depotting)
One of the problems with this course is that if the container isn't airtight - and those great little travel/simple pots are definitely not airtight, the product dries up inside.
- Hygiene concerns. Because the brush goes into the bottle and then on to your skin, over and over, some people were concerned about getting an infection. I didn't find anyone who actually did, but some said their eyes became irritated after using the product for a while, so maybe this was the cause.
- Need to make sure you let it dry - if you use it sparingly it will dry quicker, otherwise it becomes difficult to blend.
- If you use too much, it can become cakey and uneven.
- If you like a more subtle watercolor effect, you will have to get eye shadow that's very washed out because the pigments will become much brighter.
- The base is very narrow, so it can topple over more easily, and given that the packaging is fragile this can damage it.
- Some noticed it made their eye lids a bit drier, although this wasn't common.
Solutions
Some innovative solutions are to use glass containers from old make-up, or lip glaze pens as you can see in this video.
By the company
- The first company response to this was to make the brush angled so it can get into the curves more. Yes they have listened to the complaints.
- And now also they've released a maxi size tube with two half times more than the genie bottles. No waste, heaps more great stuff and the hygiene issue of using a brush over and over is gone.

Why Use Urban Decay Primer Potion?
Urban Decay Primer Potion is the best eye primer on the market today. I did a whole lot of research on the subject, because I knew nothing about the product or eye shadow primers in general. I say it's the best overall, this for the following reasons.
Eye shadow stays put
There is nothing more frustrating than taking the care and attention with eye makeup and then having it fall apart a couple of hours later. Sure if you like the natural look with just a smidgen of bronzer and you don't really care how much is left at the end of the day, it doesn't matter.
But for many, eye makeup is a work of art. Vincent Van Gogh never had to drag his paintings out to work/school, or dance with it all evening. You want your creation to look the same at 10 pm (or 4 am) as it did first thing in the morning.
It even stays if you have a habit of touching your face and eyes like I do.
So you can go to the gym, make out with that hot guy/girl, dance all night and your eye make up will still look just like at the beginning of the day.
Makes eye shadow more vibrant
Sometimes I find some of the cheap shadows have great colors, but they are a disappointment because while they look good in the case they never look the same on your eye. Especially the powder ones - you have to use too much to get the depth of color.
One of the tricks to Urban Decay Primer Potion is that you can save money by using cheap eye shadow. It actually enhances the pigments and makes them cling better.
Really makes the colors "pop".
Stops creasing, smudging and fading
I tend to have oily eye lids, especially in summer. Oil and sweat coming up from your skin causes eye shadow to melt into creases. By creating a barrier between the skin and makeup, this eye primer stops the creasing.
Smudging and fading are also prevented because the primer potion sticks to the eye shadow.
It even makes eye shadow water resistant (not water proof) so you can get your eye makeup wet in the pool or a bit of rain, it will fade a little. Be careful though, it's not going to do anything for your mascara - if that isn't waterproof you could end up looking like those Panda bears.
Improves the look of your eyelids
Some people even wear it without makeup to even out their lid color. It makes your skin look more smooth and firm.
If you have a problem with skin being too red (bluish tinge) then the Eden range will tone it down - it has a yellow base.
Feels Good
This product is colorless, thin and creamy. It is very lightweight - more like a sheer moisturizer (although it is definitely not a moisturizer) and doesn't cake or anything.
Even though it is best for oily eyelids/skin, it doesn't dry your skin out.
